Teacher Training

From September 2019 Ashdene will be running a Primary SCITT programme as part of the Outstanding Altius Alliance. We will be working with a number of good and outstanding schools from Cheshire and South Manchester to provide an exceptional training course which meets the needs of each individual trainee.

We have been involved with Initial Teacher Training for many years, offering placements for teachers studying towards their BA in Education and their Post Graduate Certificates in Education.

Ashdene Primary School work with the Altius Alliance to provide initial teacher training. More information can be found by folloiwng the link below.

What is a SCITT?

SCITT stands for School Centred Initial Teacher Training and has the huge advantage of being able to provide practical, hands-on teacher training, delivered by experienced, practising teachers based in their own school or a school in their network or alliance.

Associate Teachers (ATs) can expect to gain placements and training in schools with vast experience of initial teacher training, including schools which excel at training and developing their own staff. The course includes a number of school based training days led by Specialist Leaders of Educations (SLEs) and Outstanding teachers on a range of essential and current themes based in a range of host schools.

We offer a number of post-graduate teacher training places in collaboration with our partner primaries, all of whom are good or outstanding schools, to ensure that our trainees learn from and with the best.

We are looking for applicants with the potential to become outstanding practitioners. Further information please contact admin@ashdene.cheshire.sch.uk.

Testimonials from previous trainees

The schools based route was the best decision for me as it gave me the opportunity to become immersed in the school environment from day one. Spending more time in schools gave me a wealth of experience and allowed me time to develop my own style as a teacher. I was able to build great relationships with the children and get to know them as individuals, which helped to improve my planning and teaching. The schools and staff were so supportive and helped greatly with my professional development as I was able to regularly observe teaching, attend frequent staff trainings and really felt like part of the team.

Ashdene was one of my placements when I was doing my teacher training. I immediately felt welcomed into the school community by all the staff which made my first few days a little less daunting! I have had the chance to learn from outstanding teachers and have had their support in shaping me during my training year and continuing on as an NQT.  The knowledge and experience I have acquired here at Ashdene has been, and continues to be, invaluable.

The training I received whilst on my PGCE at Ashdene Primary school was invaluable. From day one I was welcomed into the school with open arms, no door was closed, and staff went out of their way to help in any way possible. The knowledge gained from the staff about behaviour management strategies as well as lesson planning guidance was, and is, something I will always appreciate and has enabled me to become a better teacher. There are aspects of the job university cannot teach but the staff at Ashdene facilitated my learning and gave a helping hand on every step of my journey.
